REFLEX FALSE PERCEPTION

A term used by the Swiss psychiatrist, hypnotist, and entomologist August Forel (1848-1931) as a synonym for " reflex hallucination. As Forel wrote in 1903, "Byreflex false perceptionwe mean false perceptions of one sense which are called forth by normal perceptions of another. Thus one of my patients always felt blows from a stick when some one rattled the key in the door." Although closely related in a phenomenological sense, the reflex false perception should not be confused with " synaesthesia.
