SCHILLER, FANNY

veteran character actress, an actors' union activist and the mother of Manolo Fábregas. Fanny Schiller's mother was an actress, and she grew up in the show business milieu, making her professional stage debut at the age of 16 and her screen debut in 1926. Schiller eventually earned over 175 film acting credits. In the 1940s and 1950s she was often cast as society women or domineering stepmother-types; later in her career Schiller occasionally played eccentric old ladies. She received a "Heraldo" award for her role inLos cuervos están de luto, and two Arieles: Best Supporting Actress forCantaclaroand forLa mujer que yo amé (she was also nominated as Best Supporting Actress forLas abandonadas, and for Best Female Co-Star forA media luz).
