OSÉS, FERNANDO

(1922-1999)

Spanish-born professional wrestler who came to Mexico in 1950. After a ring injury, Osés switched full-time to acting and writing. He was a major figure in the establishment of thelucha libre(wrestling-hero) genre, writing the stories for a number of Santo films (and playing villainous characters in many of them as well). In the 1970s, Osés branched out into producing (he even directed three features). He died of a heart attack in May 1999.
