Ortega joined Juan García and Pancho Córdova in the elite group of people who have received Arieles for actingandscreenwriting. As an actor, he earned a Best Supporting Actor Ariel forMariana, Mariana(he was also nominated in this category forEl costo de la vida); other acting nominations: Best Actor (forCuartelazo), and Best Male Co-Star (forEl rincón de la vírgenes). He shared Best Original Story and Best Screenplay Arieles forEl águila descalza, and received a Best Screenplay nomination forCuartelazo. As a director, he made two films in 1976 -La palomilla al rescateandVacaciones misteriosas- and has also directed TV and plays.
