Martha Navarro studied acting at the Instituto de Bellas Artes, then made her professional debut as a stage actress. She began working in films in the '60s. Since that time she has won two Ariel awards: as Best Actress forLa pasión según Berenice(1975) and a shared Best Supporting Actress prize forRosa de dos aromas(1989). She was also nominated as Best Actress forEl jinete de la divina providencia.
