AGUILAR, LUIS

(1917 or '18? -1997)
sturdy actor/singer, born in Hermosillo, Sonora. Brought to the screen by Raúl de Anda in 1943. Appeared most comfortable in Westerns and rancheras, but was occasionally cast in other genres. Moved into character leads in the late '60s, then was off-screen for a number of years before returning in character roles in the '80s. Appeared in over 150 films. Retired from singing in the mid-'80s, but continued to act in films and in telenovelas until his death, of a heart attack, in October 1997. Won an Ariel as Best Male Co-Star for his role inLos años de Greta(1991), and received a special award in 1996. His second wife was actress Rosario Gálvez.
