MENKHEPERRE

(fl. 1060–986 BC)
High priest of Amun at Thebes during Dynasty 21. Son of Pinudjem I. He eventually succeeded his brother, Masaharta, at Thebes in year 25 of Nesbanebdjed (c. 1035 BC) after some political dissension resulting in the banishment of his rivals. Menkheperre held office for approximately 50 years, after which he was followed by his sons, Nesbanebdjed and Pinudjem II.
