Helwan: translation

Modern name for a site south of Cairo where a major cemetery of the Early Dynastic Period was excavated from 1942–1954 by Egyptian archaeologist Zaki Saad. Objects from Dynasty 1 and Dynasty 2, including pottery, stone vessels, palettes, and jewelry, were recovered. An Australian expedition began work there again in 1997.
