HEIRESS CONCEPT

A theory invented by Egyptologists whereby the right to the throne passed through a womanand thus necessitated brother–sister marriages by the ruler. The theory was based on the inscriptions of Queen Hatshepsut and the number of brother–sister marriages during early Dynasty 18. This concept has now been proven false, as succession passed through the male line. Many rulers chose not to marry their sisters, preferring commoners.
