HARWENNEFER

(reigned c. 205–199 BC)
The Greek form of his name is Haronnophris and was previously wrongly read as Harmachis. Rebel king during the reign of Ptolemy V. His rebellion was centered in the south, and he controlled the area from south of Thebes to north of Abydos, while the Ptolemaic government remained in control of Elephantine and the north. Thebes was retaken in 199 BC, when Harwennefer was succeeded in unknown circumstances by Ankhwennefer.
