Ancient Egypt

HABIRU

Habiru: translation

A term found in cuneiform documents to signify nomads, renegades, or mercenaries. They are mentioned in the Amarna letters as allies of Abdi-Ashirta, king of Amurru. The term is obviously the ancestor of the word Hebrews but does not necessarily designate the same people in all its references.
