BERENICE I

(c. 340–278/7 BC)
Daughter of Magas and Antigone and wife of a Macedonian named Philip by whom she had several children. She came to Egypt with Eurydice, second wife of Ptolemy I, and soon became the mistress and then wife of the king. Berenice I was the mother of his successor, Ptolemy II, and his sister-wife, Arsinoe II.
