YAMAMIYA

Mountain shrine. A shrine established on the summit or side of a mountain where the mountain is regarded as the kami or itsshintai. The yamamiya may also be called theokumiyaas opposed to asatomiyamore conveniently located. The yamamiya may be connected with theyama-no-kami/ta-no-kamicycle.
