ITSUKUSHIMA JINJA

A shrine on the sacred island of Miyajima in the inland sea, Hiroshima prefecture. It is famous throughout the world (thanks to advertising of Japanese beauty spots) for its great eighteen-metre tallryobuor shikyaku (four-legged) styletorii, set in the sea. The torii was last rebuilt in 1875. Thekangen-saiof the shrine held on June 17th of the lunar calendar includes a boat procession with musical accompaniment.
