HACHIMANZUKURI

A widely-used style of shrine construction (-zukuri) represented by theUsa Hachimanguin Kyushu constructed in the mid-eighth century and by itsbunshashrines dedicated toHachiman; theIwashimizuin Kyoto and theTsurugaokain Kamakura. It has a separatehonden(main building) andhaiden(worship-hall), with sweeping roofs that meet between the two buildings, so that the roofs form an inverted 'w' shape viewed from the side.
