CHINOWA

A great ring up to 4m in diameter of twisted miscanthus reeds (chigaya) set up in shrine grounds to exorcise misfortune for those who walk through it. Chi-no-wa are used throughout Japan especially at theOharaefestival on June 30 and December 31st.
