ANANAIKYO

'The teaching (kyo) of the three (ana) and the five (nai)'. A messianic Shinto group founded in 1949 by Nakano, Yonosuke (b.1887). Ananai-kyo worshipskuni-toko-tachi-no-mikotoand teaches a yogic-type practice ofchinkonkishin, 'stilling the spirit to become one with the kami'. It has an ecumenical approach to other religions. The 'three' in the group's title refers to the teachings of (1) chinkon kishin (2) the form of Taoism taught in the 'red swastika' movement in Manchuria associated withDeguchi, Onisaburowho like Nakano was a disciple of the spiritualist teacher Nagasawa, Katsutoshi and (3) the Baha'i faith. The 'five' refers to the traditions of Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Islam and Taoism from which Ananai-kyo draws inspiration.
